Understanding the report
Each number submitted comes back with a status. Here is how to interpret them and what to do with them.
| Status | Meaning | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| Active | The number exists and is reachable | Keep |
| Inactive / terminated | The line no longer exists | Remove from the database |
| Landline | Landline, not reachable by SMS | Exclude from SMS campaigns |
| Unreachable | Switched off or out of coverage at the time of the test | Recheck later |
| Invalid | Incorrect format or non-existent number | Correct or delete |
The carrier field
The report shows the carrier that actually serves the number today, taking number portability into account. This is useful information for two reasons: it determines the delivery cost of your SMS, and it lets you spot a contact who has changed carrier without changing number.
Telling "unreachable" from "inactive"
An unreachable number is not dead: the phone was simply switched off or out of network at the time of the query. Do not delete it after the first test — run it through verification again a few days later, at a different time. Only the inactive status justifies immediate deletion.
Best practice: keep the date of the last verification next to each contact. A database degrades over time — regular rechecking (for example every quarter) keeps it clean.
