Understanding the 3CX licensing system
3CX is an IP phone system (PBX) that uses a licensing model based on the number of simultaneous calls (SC — Simultaneous Calls). Here is everything you need to know.
The SC (Simultaneous Calls) model
A 3CX license is defined by its number of simultaneous channels. An 8 SC license allows 8 calls in progress at the same time on your system. The number of extensions (phones) can be much higher — an 8 SC license can handle up to 40 extensions.
| SC | Max extensions | Edition |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | 40 | BASIC / PRO / ENT |
| 16 | 80 | BASIC / PRO / ENT |
| 24 | 120 | BASIC / PRO / ENT |
| 32+ | 192+ | PRO / ENT |
The 4 3CX editions
- BASIC: standard features. Web & mobile softphone, voicemail, simple IVR
- PRO: + CRM integration, advanced call queues, call reports, hot desking
- ENT / IA: + call recording, live chat, WhatsApp Business, Microsoft Teams
- ENT+: all features + 3CX priority support
Annual vs perpetual license
3CX has moved to an annual model since version 18. Your WebTic subscription includes the annual renewal of the license with 3CX. If it is not renewed, 3CX switches to degraded mode (limited functions).
Hosted vs on-premise installation
- WebTic Cloud: 3CX hosted on our servers. Zero maintenance for you.
- On-premise: installation on your Windows/Linux server. You keep full control.
Updates and support
3CX updates are included in the annual subscription. WebTic also provides first-level support for configuration and incidents.
